Welcome, Queens & Kings to another blog post in the You-ni Series! Today we will be talking about developing a social life through online schooling. It doesn't matter if most of our time will be spent online, we all develop strategies to socialize after all technology was made to draw us closer to each other, right?
1. Introduce yourselves to classmates online, start conversations and make IG or WhatsApp groups for the purpose of intellectual discussions. You could set up study sessions (online or meet in small groups in real life). Do what it takes to make human connections.
2. Some universities will offer tutors, uni buddies and mentors, find out if your university does and get involved. Tutors will help you learn the lessons better and get insight. Don't be afraid to engage with upper years, to get explanations about your course and all.
3. Make use of support services offered by your institutions. There are a lot of things that most students don't make use of even though they pay a lot of money for is the services offered by the Universities' Student Support Services. There are mental aid services, wellness centres, career advice, job search help, and many more.
4. Schedule calls using your planner from Do Good Paper Co. with friends during your week so you not only have something to look forward to, but you also have a fun time with friends. We, humans, are social beings and even when forced to be apart, make use of technology to stay connected.
5. Join peer mentorship, well become a mentee, extend your socializing wings and also gaining experience & advice from older students at your institution. I have recently joined the transition mentorship program offered by my school and it is a great means to get clarity on a strange about a world from someone who has been through the system in recent times and truly understands my plight.
6. Participate in clubs that are associated with your interests, yes clubs will still be in session, it might be virtually but it would still be a great chance for you to meet new people, work on interesting activities and add some spice to your life.
7. Find a hobby or join a sports team in your community
8. Offer & receive support and explanations from your peers.
Share additional information, everyone can win. This replication can help you form a strong study support system, make you find friends and aides.
PS: Try to have the contact or acquaintance of at least one person from all your lecture classes. In case of emergencies; maybe you missed a day and need notes they can send you it. They can also act as reminders for upcoming deadlines.
