HOW TO CURATE YOUR BEST LIFE THIS NEW YEAR.

Happy New Year Queens and Kings!

Thanks for stopping by to read the first blog post of the year. Having all experienced some few days in the new year, I figure some of us must have laid out our plans for the new year, whilst some haven’t done so yet or some don’t even plan to. Nonetheless in this post we’ll discuss: new year resolutions(their effectiveness), vision planning, enacting and manifesting our dream life. And NO, you are not too young.


No one is going to hand you your dream life on a gold platter, you have to work to attain it. Intentional thinking, purposeful planning and consistent actions are the catalyst to change achieving your desires.

I’m sure we are all familiar with the idea of ‘New Year resolutions’ however, Idle resolutions and mindless desires are recipes for a stagnant life. Individuals are often quite to make a long list of resolutions and end up giving up on or forgetting them within 1 or 2 months into the year. If you’re guilty of this, that’s okay; so was i - 🎵We’re all in this together… 🎵 We are about to change that.

Some of us aren’t fans of the whole ‘new year new me’ philosophy We often see it as a cliche and exaggeration of the dawn of a new year. We subscribe to the idea of changing because of a particular time period. Yes, while it is true that we don’t need a special time to enact change I do feel that the unique excitement and splendour provided by the New Year’s dawn should be harnessed and used to help us live the life we truly desire for. We all have the power to attain all of our dreams and desires. Here are stop steps to help you plan for your dream life and the year 2020.

Keep in mind that it can be subject to change as we live and grow our goals and desires are sure to change.


Let’s dive in




STEP 1- DEVELOP A POSITIVE MINDSET.

Have a strong belief in yourself and that whatever you set your mind to do, you can achieve it. Get rid of any self-doubt. To summon a good mindest: gas yourself(lol), think of the best version of yourself: watch motivational movies, watch a feel-good movie, do whatever you need to have a good sense of your self and your ability. Once you put in the work you will achieve your goals.



STEP 2- DREAM HARD, THEN WRITE IT OR DRAW IT

Consider all the areas of your life, How do you want these areas of your life to look like in the next 5, 10, 20, 30 Years? Take time to think of exactly how you want to live, YES GUYS THINK OF YOUR BEST LIFE and write it down. Don’t limit yourself, write down all of what you want to accomplish and be specific about them. Visualize your dream life.

What educational level do you want to attain? Do you want to have emotional maturity? Do you want to own a car? What Kind? Do you want to travel more? How many countries?

Write, write, write, write OR draw, draw draw, draw.


STEP 3- SEGMENT YOUR DREAMS & VISIONS

Place all your desires under specific headings: spiritual, educational, health, finance, recreational, mental, emotional, relationships… and place your list under each heading. This will bring a sense of order and cohesiveness to the planning.


STEP 4- SCAN YOUR LIST AND PICK.

-From each group, pick the one or two, that really excites you, just the thought ignites joy to your soul.

~Now the one that excites you might not be the fastest to achieve now so…

Scan again and choose the ones that can be started or achieved this year.

After that, choose how often you will work on it. Life Coach, Marie Forleo says that “If it’s not scheduled, it’s not real”. Designate what you need to work on daily, weekly, monthly or quarterly.

Now, of course, I realize that some important goals will not be achieved by the end of 2020, but instead how ignoring them, how about starting them this year. Make plans and start! For example, if you want to buy a house in 5 years’ time; start saving a weekly amount of $2000(₦),$50(JMD), $10(CAD) By the end of the year you’ll have a good amount. Keep That amount somewhere safe ( in a bank account or with your grandparents), the next year increase the amount of money you save, do the same for the next and the next. You’ll eventually have half / full down payment money to buy a house of you’re dreams. Jamaicans have a saying that goes like this: every mickle makes a muckle that is to say a continuous drop of a small amount becomes a large amount over time. So guys start dropping your mickle.


STEP 5- MAKE A VISION BOARD!

This is not a must but it is quite helpful. A vision board is a visual representation of one’s clarified and specific life goals. “It serves as a source of inspiration towards concrete daily actions in pursuit of one’s most important goals”. Find pictures that depict your goals, paste them on a board, put it where you can see it daily and reflect on it often. STEP6- EMBRACE GROWTH, CONSISTENCY AND PERSEVERANCE.

Acknowledge the fact that if you’re not growing then you’re not living, and to grow you have to come out of your comfort zone and do what needs to be done. Push your self to make consistent actions to make your dreams come through. See the steps you’ve outlined as opportunities you have to make the life you want to appear soon. In life nothing is easy, failure is sure to come along; you might fail to complete an action within a specific time or you might experience rejection- don’t stop, see them as minor setbacks and continue to push harder.


STEP 7- EVALUATE YOUR GOALS AND HAVE FUN WHEN ACHIEVING THEM.

Do monthly, quarterly or semi-annual reviews of your goals, acknowledge your achievements, mistakes and evaluate how to make improvements. I plan to review mine quarterly.

Planning is good and all but remember none of these will work unless you do, so hustle hard. Substitute 30 minutes on IG for a workout session/ Substitute 1 hour on idle Youtube videos with a video that teaches you graphic design/ Make lunch & save the money given to you by your parents in order to make tour dream to travel to Bali come true ( lol why do I sound like a fairytale narrator?). Simple steps can make BIG dreams a reality.
