Goals are useless without actions. Most of us, humans tend to have great goals and plans but end up self-sabotaging ourselves by not acting upon them immediately which then leads to procrastination. Eventually, some of these goals are then deserted and given up on. In order to achieve greatness and end up curating our dream lives we simply have to enact them. This can be instigated by simply creating an action plan and promptly starting action on any goal we have. It doesn’t matter if the surrounding situations are not perfect, the key is to simply start promptly and gradually continue by following your action plan. This will make you gain momentum.
In the second quarter of the year, I had an idea- to organize a self-care workshop( i will talk more about this in a later blog post). I immediately noted and went over details, believed that it was possible, put in the work and made it happen. In an attempt to put my self ‘out there’, I Direct Messaged prospective quest speakers, made bold requested, developed design skills and incurred marketing skills. Single handly, I planned and executed the event. As a result of direct and instant action, I made a seemingly impossible task possible.
Now that’s great and all but as we know, life is not all sunshine and rainbows, goals without plans will not come into fruition. Starting a blog was one of my goals at the beginning of the year. From procrastination, to technical difficulties, to losing a set of photos; starting the blog just never came to fruition. What could be done in a day, took months.
As the year comes to an end and I ponder on my goals I was reminded that I hadn’t still started the blog and of course the plausible thing to do would be to start next year because…. of new year new beginnings. In fact, I had decided- it would make perfect sense that I start next year. What changed? A whirlwind of rebuttal to my thoughts was presented in various forms. From a conversation with a friend, to a message at church, to a Youtube video, to an email- the message was clear- I just needed to start and start as soon as I could, instead of continuing in the vicious cycle of procrastination.
Remember I spoke about the message at church rebutting my procrastination drive? I am going to just relay the heart jabbing highlights of the message:
-The greatest tragedy in life is not death, the greatest tragedy is to live or to have died without a purpose.
-The richest place in the world is the burial ground where many dreams and successes are buried.
-It is one’s duty to activate their power.
-Nothing in our life changes, until we change our minds.
-Examine yourself and identify the purpose of your life.
-Live in what God says about you.
Tomorrow is not promised and as humans, we are full of talents and ideas all of which go to waste when we don’t seize the opportunity of the present time. What we start doesn’t have to be perfect, we don’t have to fuss about the details all we have to do is start. Even if it doesn’t work out, we would have the experience that would reveal more about ourselves and instigate growth. As a new year approaches, I hope you make powerful goals and make them a reality.
This one hits home.
